Travel eastward through the states of Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia and Virginia,  stopping in Charleston, West Virginia en route to Washington D.C.  Your tour of Washington D.C. begins in Old town of Alexandria where you’ll spend the next 4 nights.  Here you will have some time to browse around in quaint shops and restaurants along its historic main street.  Dine with us tonight at the Great American Steakhouse.

Explore Washington D.C. first hand with a guided tour of Arlington Cemetery.  See the burial sites of Robert Kennedy, John F. Kennedy, Thurgood Marshall, and other famous dignitaries.  You’ll also witness the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.  Enjoy lunch on your own at the Old Post Office which features a clock tower that gives you a magnificent view of the city.  Feel the air of spring as you will see the wonderful gifts of 3,000 cherry trees Japan gave our nation’s capital in hopeful peak bloom.  Some line the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, Roosevelt Memorial and the Washington Monument.  You’ll also have a chance to visit the memorial of WWI, WWII, Korean War, and Vietnam War.  Dine aboard the Spirit of Washington for an elegant dinner cruise along the Potomac River.

In the heart of Washington D.C. sits our nation’s capitol and the White House.  You’ll be enough fortunate enough with American Classic Tours to tour both.  The tour of the Capitol includes Statuary Hall, the original Supreme Court Chamber, and the Crypt, the intended burial place of George and Martha Washington. The Senate and House chambers will conclude this tour before departure for the White House.  The home of the President of the United States had been closed in recent years for tours because of security issues but we have made it possible to tour with the help of government officials.  The afternoon will be spent at the Ford’s Theatre where President Abraham Lincoln was killed on a fateful night in April of 1865.  Dinner will be along the Potomac River at riverside restaurant famous to many in Washington D.C.

Enjoy the entire day at the Smithsonian Institution.  The famous museum complex includes more than twelve different museums and galleries, including the Space Museum, Museum of History, and the American History Museum.  Some of the artifacts housed here have been past down for centuries and our now enshrined as a part of our American History.

As we say goodbye to our nation’s Capitol, your journey will take you to the home of George and Martha Washington, the first President of the United States.  Tour the home and grounds of the President before a farewell lunch served by impersonators dressed in period clothing.  What a great way to end this wonderful tour to Washington D.C., before continuing your journey home.
